Intestinal worms cause many abdominal ailments. These worms are parasitic by nature. The common worms that reside in the human intestines are giardia, thread worms, hook worms, tape worms and round worms.
Many among them are microscopic; while some of them are visible to the naked eye.
According to Ayurveda, these worms breed profusely in the intestines of those people who consume excessive sour or sweet food items. The ova if these worms find their ways into the human body via the drinks and food we take.
These worms are excreted through the stool. At that time many of these worms may die. However, some of these worms may also remain alive when getting purged out from within the body of the host.
SYMPTOMS OF THE PRESENCE OF INTESTINAL WORMS
The presence of different worms presents different symptoms. However, all the worms cause indigestion.
The two most commonly found worms in the intestines are the hook worms and the round worm. Here are lists of the symptoms that occur when these two worms adversely affect the human body particularly the intestines.
Hook Worms: This may result in diarrhea or constipation. It may lead to acute pain as well. Such symptoms are indicative of the presence of hook worms. These hook worms suck the blood of the human bodies wherein they reside. As a result, the patients suffer from anaemia.
Round Worm: Presence of round worm in the intestines cause appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, and cough.
Adjunct Ailments
It is not uncommon for such patients to suffer from bronchitis, fever and urticaria. These ailments strike when the aforementioned the worms play riot within the intestines. Hence, with the tackling of the worms, most of the patients are relived of these adjunct ailments as well.
Dietary Regimen
It is of utmost necessity that such patients should regularly consume garlic and Haridra. Mentionably, these ingredients can be mixed with the vegetables that are cooked for the patient. Haridra also cures fever and urticaria.
Such patients must also regularly take bitter items like the bitter gourd, the bitter variety of drumstick and neem flower.
What not to eat
Such patients should avoid taking sugarcane or sugarcane juice. They should not have sugar as well.
Other important practices
Patients suffering from this condition must observe at least a day’s fast each week. This is required to prevent the breeding of intestinal worms within the intestines. Fasts further cure the symptoms that appear due to the presence of intestinal worm.
Immediately attend to defecation whenever the tendency arises.
Daily and regular bowel movement is a must.
Ayurvedic treatment for intestinal worm
Ayurveda has two quite effective medications against this condition. These are Palasha (Butea monosperma) and Vidanga.

Palasha (Butea monosperma) and Vidanga are available in a powdery form. They are prepared from the seeds of the plants that go by those respective names.
The dose: One teaspoonful of this powdery mixture should be mixed with a cup of warm water. The patient should have it thrice daily.
