Mentionably, scurvy is common to the personnel in the armed forces and allied professions. This is because of their typical food habits. It has been found that people in these jobs generally take preserved or tinned foods.
Besides, people accustomed to excessive boiled foods are prone to scurvy. Excessively boiled vegetables lose Vitamin C.

DIETARY REGIMEN
Such people should have good amounts of raw and fresh fruits.
Banana, bilva and pomegranate are three fruits that are absolutely necessary for people suffering from scurvy.
Moreover, these people must include in their diet fresh vegetables.
Leafy vegetables must be adequately taken by people suffering from scurvy.
OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS
Patients suffering from scurvy need lots of rest.
They should not be exposed to excessive sunlight or heat.
AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS
Ayurvedic medications for treating scurvy contain the natural fruit Amalaki. A commonly prescribed medication is Chyavana prasha.
AMALAKI
Regular consumption of the ripe Amalaki fruit is quite beneficial for such patients. It can bee taken in the raw form as well. Immediately after consuming even one Amalaki fruit, the patient can drink half a cup of water. Then he will experience a sweet taste even though initially the taste in the mouth may be slight tangy.
Preparation process: Here is another way of having the Amalaki fruit. Collect the ripe amalaki fruit and dry them in shade. Then grind them into the powdery form. One can also season the powder with black or rock salt. One can also opt to mix sugar with the powder.
The Dose : Mix one teaspoonful of the powder in a cup of lukewarm milk. The patient should have the concoction thrice daily.
CHAYAVANA PRASHA
Chyavana prasha also contains Amalaki besides many other natural products. Chyavana prasha; it is available in the market as a complete product.
The Dose : One teaspoonful mixed with milk needs to be taken thrice daily.
Note : A teaspoonful of Chyavana prasha mixed with a teaspoonful of honey should be regularly given to children. This combination is a wholesome food. It ensures the total development of the physique and also boosts intelligence by developing the brain cells. Hence, the mental acumen of the kids improves. There are no side effects.
